      Karyen Chai

      Director, Clinical Services

      Ms Karyen Chai, Educational Psychologist, holds a Masters of Science in Developmental Disorders with Clinical Practice from the University of York (UK). She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from the University of Dayton (USA) and is an alumni of the prestigious NUS High School of Math and Science.

      As an Educational Psychologist, Karyen has been working with many parents to help
      moderate children that exhibit autistic and ADHD traits to enhance their focusing and
      attention skills. She assesses behavioural conditions and develops personalised therapy plans to aid individual children, as an early start will significantly improve the efficacy of intervention sessions.

      A firm advocate of mental health awareness, she is currently holds positions in psychology associations and societies across the UK, USA, and Singapore.

      With teaching and test-administration experience, she is well versed in the American, British, and Singaporean education systems and can adequately advise parents on how to help their child cope with them.

      Dr Chris Koh

      Founder

      Dr Chris Koh, a former SAF-scholar, holds a PhD (Life Sciences and Behaviour) from the National University of Singapore. He received a research scholarship and attained a Perfect Grade Point Average during his doctorate studies.

      His area of research is on understanding the communications and interactions between organisms and the environment. He has since published several papers in the area of behavioural studies.

      Dr Koh is also the founder of Singapore’s largest privately-owned school-based student-care centre chain, comprising of 16 centres with 1700 students, all of whom have benefited from his novel pedagogy and forward-thinking abilities, allowing them to excel academically and develop holistically from a young age. He is ACTA qualified and a MSF-approved speaker for Family Life Education and conducts regular talks in primary schools across the island.

      As Founder, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Initium Academy. He is currently pursuing his 2nd PhD as a Clinical Psychologist from the University of Otago, New Zealand, which will further equip him to advise parents on how to enhance their child’s development.

      The oldest of 6 siblings, Faith has been interacting with younger children from a very early age. With two daughters of her own now, she is further invested in teaching and nurturing young minds.

      Graduating at the top of her cohort in her Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education-Teaching studies, Faith went on to receive a Bachelors’ Degree in Early Childhood from the University of Ballarat and has just completed her Master in Education (Early Childhood) from Monash University, Australia. Prior to tertiary education, she received her education from very unique sources. This has helped her to bring a fresh perspective to the early childhood curriculum.

      As Director of Curriculum and Training for Initium Academy, the curriculum that she has put together is based on her years of teaching experience in both the kindergarten and childcare setting, both in small-scale schools and bigger organizations. She aims to bring the world into the classroom, to impart interesting and engaging facts to impressionable children that will feed their interest and encourage them to want to know more. She recognizes the need to balance activity-based learning with fundamentals of learning to read and write well to be ready for formal education, as such, she is constantly looking for ways to push children to achieve just a little bit more.

      An enthusiastic, resourceful, and committed educator with innate ability to understand and motivate children, it is her goal to create a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and adaptive to the varied needs of children.

      Clare Yeo

      Director, Operations

      To date, Clare has gathered over a decade’s worth of experience in the Early Childhood field. Over the years, she has held various management and teaching positions such as a Principal, Vice-Principal, Advisor, Curriculum Developer, Lead Educator and Field Practicum Supervisor, in various childcares & enrichment centres, both in private and government schools.

      Being a firm believer of life-long learning, Clare has continuously pursued her studies whilst being in the field and holds a Masters’ of Education, specialising in Early Childhood, with Monash University. To add on, she has a Bachelors’ Degree in Early Childhood from the University of South Australia, a Diploma in Pre-School Education (Teaching), a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Leadership) and a Certificate in Early Years Development Framework under her belt. She is also a certified facilitator for The Virtues ProjectTM as she is passionate about character excellence in young children.

      As an advocate of sensorial learning experiences, Clare aims to instill in young children a love for nature. This has seen her collaborate closely with National Parks – Community in Bloom (CIB) projects to set up prize-winning sensory gardens for children.

      Clare is more than a Director of Operations at Initium Academy; she is an educator at heart and an advocate of the field who aims to give her best to children, to bring out the gems within each child and to prepare them for life. This has earned her awards and strong recommendations from parents, management and staff who have worked alongside her.

      Dr Seah Wee Khee

      Academic Chair

      Dr Seah Wee Khee graduated with a PhD (National University of Singapore) in Life Sciences and holds a Masters of Educational Management (MEdMgt) (Top Honours) from the University of Melbourne, Australia. She was also the recipient of the prestigious President Graduate Fellowship in 2004. In 2005, she was awarded the Best Graduate Researcher Award from the Department of Biological Sciences, NUS.

      She was previously the Head of Research, Innovation and Enterprise in NUS High School of Math and Science. As an educator, she has a wealth of experience in coaching in-service teachers and graduate students from NUS in research methodology and concepts, and has published several research papers in internationally reviewed journals. Her forward-thinking skills and exceptional ability to lead others will provide excellent guidance and direction for Initium Academy.

      To date, Dr Seah has published three international-selling books (50 Math and Science Games for Leadership, cheMagic: 50 Chemistry Classics and Magical Tricks, and Developing Life Skills through Math and Science Games) through World Scientific Publisher.  On numerous occasions, she has been interviewed by the Straits Times on her novel teaching methods in enhancing learning for high ability students.
